Google App Engine
I recently started Google App Engine for an online course I’m taking from Udacity and I have to say, I’m impressed. Having a pre-configured development environment, in the cloud, for free? It doesn’t get much better. Google has even built desktop management applications to easily manage your projects. If you’re interested in web application engineering, it’s definitely worth looking into!

Edit: Netflix is NOT in Support of CISPA
As you may have heard, SOPA 2.0 (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA for short) is in the making. A rumor spread rapidly across the internet that Netflix was in support of this bill, originating from RT. Thankfully, This has been disproven. I was simply baffled that Netflix was making another poor poor decision. Give techdirt a visit for more information.

Trolls: Endangered Species
One of the internets many creatures, the troll, have become become prominent contributors to internet culture. These creatures are now on the endangered list in Arizona, whose legislation looks to make the at of trolling a Class 1 misdemeanor, or worse. Yes, another bill thought up by brilliant legislators who simply don’t understand how our internet works.

Collaborating Projects with Version Control
A lot of problems can arise when working with others on code. For this reason, version control is a must. Version control allows you to make different saves during the duration of your project that you can always reference or revert to in the event of an error, as well as hosting your code in the cloud so other participants are able to “pull” the most up to date code to their machines.

All Your Passwords Are Belong to Us
Basically, this amendment would have prohibited employers from requiring employees, and potential employees to surrender the passwords to their Facebook, and other social media accounts. It was defeated in the House by a vote of 236 to 184.
My opinion? I say we require politicians to give us their passwords so we can take a look around before we cast our votes. Maybe then they’ll rethink the value of privacy. Employers have enough utilities to check the background of current and perspective employees. They can browse our public profiles as they please, but surrendering not only access to our accounts, but our passwords… That is a liability nightmare waiting to happen.

Facebook Cover Photos
With the release of Facebook’s timeline, we were finally grated that small bit of personality we all craved, but our profile lacked. There are a ton of websites that offer you cover photos to choose from, buh I recommend taking this customization to the limit by making your own “cover photo.” This is easily done with the use of your favorite image editing software and setting the dimensions to 850 x 315 pixels and create a way!

Impress.js
Ever get bored of the same old Power Point presentations? I sure do. As web developers, It’s our job to think outside the box and make things a little more interesting. Impress.js is an open source project that does just that. It allows you to use HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS3 to make three dimensional presentations that are stunning to say the least.

Project: MineCalc
Visit the site: eveminecalc.com
I recently embarked on a project in collaboration with my colleague Isaac Gifford to create a complex, web based calculator to aid miners in the video game EVE Online. This project excites me the most because of completely original service it provides. There is not another web app available that is able to provide the same information as MineCalc. It takes several different conditions that are commonly faced in the game into account for maximum usability and satisfaction across all play styles.

Web Design Principles
There are many aspects to good web design. A designer must find a balanced level of ascetics while not sacrificing the key element usability. A lot of people thin Flash means good design, this is not fact, I’ve seen plenty of hideous flash websites. You can easily achieve fantastic design results by following seven simple principles:
